Lyle and Dorothy Wood have owned and operated Cross Davidson Real Estate for 13 years after purchasing the business from the original founders, John Cross and Mike Davidson. Operating from the same prominent location on the corner of 42nd St and Broadway in Mt. Vernon, IL, the couple have worked tirelessly at building upon the foundation created by the previous owners. Married for over 49 years, the couple each originate from the Keenes, IL area and married shortly after graduating from Mt. Vernon Township High School. They have two sons, Brent and Brian, and two grandsons, Blake and Grant.
Real estate has been a continuous thread running throughout the family's history. For 35 years, Lyle and Dorothy owned and operated Lyle Wood Construction Company with great success. Even to today, wherever you are throughout the local area it is likely you will encounter properties that were constructed with skill, quality and determination by Lyle Wood Construction. Just as important, you will hear of the honest, fair and considerate manner in which they conducted business and built a honorable reputation.
As they slowly began to exit the construction business, Dorothy discovered real estate as her true passion. Shortly after becoming a rookie salesperson with Cross Davidson Real Estate in 1985, she exhibited her talent in real estate sales and excelled in the business. Having earned countless awards as one of the most productive and successful agents in the history of Jefferson County, Mrs. Wood was honored when John Cross and Mike Davidson offered the opportunity to continue the Cross Davidson Real Estate legacy in 1999 and the business was sold to the Woods.
Once again proving their determination and strong work ethic, the Woods immersed themselves into the company and its success. Not long after, Cross Davidson Real Estate commanded the market share of real estate transactions in Jefferson County and established a benchmark for achievement that remains impressive to this day.
The Woods now wish to actively pursue their passion for travel and transition into retirement. However, the family legacy in real estate will continue with plans for Brian, their youngest son, to assume management of operations for the company. While living in California for 17 years, Brian developed exceptional business and customer relations skills while working in investment banking (San Francisco, 8 years), personal management with the San Diego Padres (San Diego, 5 years), and interior design (San Diego, 4 years). He returns to Mt. Vernon and local real estate equipped with an inherent knowledge of the real estate business gained from the family's history and with a wealth of fresh and creative ideas acquired from work and travel around the world.
